Good afternoon. Let me start today’s briefing.

Let me read the MOFA Spokesperson’s statement on the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

The government of the Republic of Korea welcomes the agreement reached on January 15 regarding the ceasefire and hostage release in the Gaza Strip, and highly appreciates the diplomatic efforts made by the United States, Qatar and Egypt, which played critical roles in achieving this agreement.

The ROK government hopes that all hostages will be released and the humanitarian situation in Gaza will improve through the complete and swift implementation of the agreement. Moreover, the government hopes that talks on diplomatic solutions for regional peace and stability will be accelerated harnessing the positive momentum generated by the agreement.

As a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, the government of the Republic of Korea will continue to join the international community’s efforts to restore and promote peace in the Middle East.
